WebP to GIF

If an animation you saved as .webp won’t move in your app, turn it into a GIF. GIFs play almost everywhere, and the conversion happens on your device.

WebP to GIF in 3 steps

  1. Choose the .webp stickers or animations you want to convert.
  2. Press "Convert to GIF". Every frame is copied over with its timing.
  3. Download the GIF. If you converted several files, they come in one ZIP.

What you get

  • The animation keeps moving

A basic image converter only takes the first frame. This one puts every frame of the animated WebP into the GIF, each with its original timing.

  • Works where WebP doesn’t

Older editing programs, email clients, forums, slide decks and some chat apps still expect animations to be GIFs.

  • Whole sticker packs at once

You can drop a full sticker pack. Each file becomes its own GIF, and you download them all together.

  • Stickers stay on your device

Your browser does the conversion, so the WebP files aren’t uploaded or stored anywhere.

WebP to GIF questions

Will my animated WebP stay animated?

Yes, in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, which can read an animated WebP frame by frame. Other browsers only give access to the first frame, and you’d end up with a still GIF. If that happens, open this page in one of those three browsers and convert the file again.

Where do animated WebP files come from?

Mostly from WhatsApp and Telegram stickers, animations saved from websites, and GIF sites that now serve WebP because the files are lighter. That’s why a download you expected to be a .gif often turns out to be a .webp.

Why is the GIF bigger than the WebP?

WebP compresses animation much better than GIF, which dates back to 1987. The same animation is often several times larger as a GIF. If file size matters, keep using the WebP wherever it’s accepted.

Why do the colours look slightly different?

A GIF frame can hold up to 256 colours, and WebP has no such limit. Cartoon-style stickers usually look the same. Animations that look like photos may show fine dot patterns or visible bands of colour.

What about stickers with a transparent background?

In a GIF, each pixel is either fully transparent or fully solid, with nothing in between. Soft sticker edges become hard, and on a dark chat background you may see a thin light outline.

Can I convert a still WebP image?

Yes, you’ll get a still GIF. For ordinary pictures, WebP to PNG or WebP to JPG keep more colour and are usually a better fit.
