Should I pick JPG or PNG for a WebP?

Pick JPG for photos you want to share, print or post. It’s smaller and opens everywhere. Pick PNG if the image has a transparent background you want to keep, like a logo or a sticker. For that, use WebP to PNG.

What happens to transparent parts?

JPG can’t be transparent, so those areas turn white. For a photo that changes nothing. Around a cut-out logo, though, you’ll see a white box.

Will I lose quality?

Very little. The JPG is saved at about 92% quality, which looks the same as the WebP at normal sizes. The WebP was already compressed, so no tool can bring back detail that isn’t in it.

Why do websites use WebP if so many apps can’t open it?

All browsers handle WebP, and smaller images make sites load faster. Problems only start when a picture leaves the browser and ends up in an app made before WebP became common.

Can I send the result on WhatsApp or by email?

Yes, that’s what JPG is good at. Some apps turn a WebP into a sticker or refuse it as an attachment. A JPG goes through as a normal photo.

Does it work on Android and iPhone?
