PNG to SVG in 3 steps

  1. Choose the PNG logo, icon or drawing you want to turn into a vector.
  2. Pick "Logo / drawing" for flat graphics, or "Photo" for pictures with lots of colours.
  3. Press "Convert to SVG". The shapes are traced into paths and the file is ready to download.

How this converter works

  • Traced paths, not an embedded image

Some converters just put the PNG inside an SVG file, and it still blurs when you enlarge it. This tool traces the outlines into actual vector shapes.

  • Best with flat PNGs

Logos and icons saved as PNG usually have crisp edges and only a few colours. That’s what tracing handles best.

  • Sharp at any size

You can use the same SVG on a business card or a large poster. Vector shapes are redrawn at each size, so the edges stay clean.

  • Logos stay on your device

Client logos and unreleased artwork are traced inside your browser tab. The PNG isn’t sent to a server.

PNG to SVG questions

How does PNG to SVG conversion work?

A PNG is a grid of coloured pixels. Tracing looks for areas of the same colour, follows their edges and writes them down as vector paths made of lines and curves. Because the SVG is a set of filled shapes, it can be scaled up without blurring.

Which mode should I choose?

"Logo / drawing" reduces the image to a few flat colours and gives smooth, clean edges. Use it for logos, icons, signatures and line art. "Photo" keeps more colours and detail, but the file gets much bigger and more complex.

Can I turn a photo into an SVG?

You can, but it won’t look like the original photo. The result is built from flat patches of colour, a bit like a poster effect. If you only need a photo at a different size, PNG or JPG is the better choice.

What about my transparent background?

Fully transparent areas stay empty, so the traced logo still sits cleanly on any background. Soft shadows or glows that fade out may become a solid outline, because tracing works with flat colours.

How do I get the cleanest result?

Start with the largest, sharpest PNG you have, ideally with strong contrast and a plain background. Very small icons (under about 100 px) don’t have enough pixels for smooth curves, so use a bigger version if there is one.

Can I edit the SVG afterwards?

Yes. Open it in Inkscape, Illustrator, Figma or Affinity Designer, and each traced shape is a separate path you can recolour, move or delete. Any text in the image becomes shapes as well, so you can’t edit it as text.
