GIF to JPG in 3 steps

  1. Add the GIF files you want to use as regular photos.
  2. Press "Convert to JPG". The first frame is put on a white background and saved.
  3. Download the JPG. Several files come together in a ZIP.

Where a JPG helps

  • Profile and ID photos

Many sites won’t take a .gif as an avatar or ID photo. JPG is the format almost every upload field expects.

  • Printing

Photo kiosks and online print services usually want JPG. Converting beforehand means your order won’t be sent back.

  • Smaller files for photo-like GIFs

A large animated GIF can be many megabytes. A single JPG frame is usually a small part of that.

  • Converted in your browser

The GIF is turned into a JPG on your own device. We don’t receive or keep a copy.

GIF to JPG questions

Which frame of an animated GIF do I get?

The first one. A JPG is a single picture, so the rest of the animation is left out. Make sure the opening frame is the one you want before you convert.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG doesn’t support transparency, so those areas become white. If you need them to stay see-through, use GIF to PNG instead.

Will the JPG fix the grainy look of the GIF?

No. The GIF already cut the image down to 256 colours, and JPG can’t bring back the lost shades. It saves what you see in a format more places accept, and the file is usually smaller.

Is the JPG smaller than the GIF?

For photos and animations, usually yes, and often by a lot. For tiny flat graphics like a two-colour logo, the GIF may already be smaller, and JPG can add a faint blur around sharp edges.

What quality is the JPG saved at?

About 92%. At that level it looks the same as the original, and the file stays reasonably small.

Can I convert GIFs on my phone?

Yes. Open this page in your phone’s browser and pick the GIF from your downloads or gallery. The JPG is saved to your phone.
